Growers face multiple challenges each growing season, from balancing environmental goals to meeting consumer demands. Weighing conventional crop protection practices against resistance management and other environmental objectives can get tricky.

UPL is here to help growers navigate these challenges with their ProNutiva® complete approach to crop protection.

By integrating natural biosolutions with conventional crop protection products, ProNutiva provides a prescriptive program to help growers meet real-world problems. The exclusive program answers the latest challenges in agriculture by:

  • Supporting sustainable agricultural practices
  • Improving grower economics
  • Meeting evolving food chain requirements

“The ProNutiva program takes a comprehensive look at cropping systems and offers a variety of options to help growers achieve optimal crop performance,” says Joe Vassios, UPL Food Value Chain & MRL Lead. “It’s an integrative approach to crop production.”

For example, the program looks at specific pests and develops a season-long program for control. It integrates more conventional chemistry with sustainable or natural-based products as well as rotating modes of actions.

The ProNutiva program has achieved success in a variety of crop trials for weed and pest control, including grapes, apples and wheat. In addition, walnut growers have found the program helpful in addressing walnut blight in their orchards.

Utilizing the UPL ProNutiva platform approach has helped walnut growers who have dealt with resistance issues in traditional management approaches.

“Research indicates that walnut blight has shown resistance to copper,” says Vassios. “But with a rotational plan and incorporation of different materials, growers can achieve control. A rotation of a mancozeb and copper is the more traditional approach. However, ProNutiva advises incorporating KASUMIN® bactericide into the rotation to combat these resistance issues. This is a great example of how the program can be implemented in the field.”

Our ProNutiva approach has the secondary benefit of assisting with residue issues for key export countries, he continues: “At the same time, it can focus on increased plant health and yields to provide additional grower benefits at the end of the season.”

In essence, ProNutiva promotes maximum genetic potential for each crop and mitigates stress factors like soil problems, climatic changes, pest attacks and diseases.
