The stewardship programme was launched in partnership with UMTIZA Farmers Co-Op, a well-known agricultural supply brand based in the Eastern Cape.

It was the largest private function ever hosted by UPL South Africa.
The programme focusses on the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. The Eastern Cape boasts a population of 6,8 million and comprises 14% of South Africa’s total landmass. The province’s climate allows for the production of a wide range of crops and emerging and subsistence farming is highly prevalent.
Although the province boasts a number of cities, the Galela Kakuhle programme predominantly services the rural areas. Rural in Africa, by definition, mostly implies very little or zero infrastructure, such a roads and amenities like electricity. UPL therefor had to ensure that its training vehicle could function completely off-grid.
