John Fred is the Chief Legal Officer of UPL Corp and is responsible for all legal matters in UPL’s global crop protection business. He joined UPL in April 2024.

John has more than 15 years of experience as a strategic legal advisor in the agricultural and life science industries, including broad experience with international legal issues and cross-border transactions. He previously held senior North American and global legal roles with Bayer’s Crop Science and Pharmaceutical divisions (including US Head of Law for Seeds and Traits and Head of Law for Global Strategic Pharmaceutical Marketing) and BASF’s Agricultural Products business before joining UPL. Prior to those roles, he served as a federal appellate clerk and practiced antitrust and competition law at a major international law firm in Washington, DC.

John received his undergraduate (Economics) and law degrees from Duke University.
