Standing with Mali's cotton farmers for over 40 years

Tags: R & D

Cotton is the backbone of Mali's economy, covering over 625.000 hectares (2025-26) and supporting 204,000 farmers while generating 60% of the country's export revenues and ensure food security. Through our OpenAg® approach, we've partnered with farmers and the Malian National Cotton Company (CMDT) for over four decades, connecting expertise to fast-track solutions that address real farming challenges in this vital industry.

Mali's cotton farmers face mounting challenges. Rising pest resistance has hit hard, with outbreaks like Amrasca biguttula causing up to 50% yield losses in 2023-2024. Add climate pressures, soil degradation and economic volatility, and it's clear why farmers need reliable partners more than ever.

Through our OpenAg® approach and partnership with CMDT, we reach 200,000+ farmers annually across 360,000 hectares with solutions that work in real fields. Our ULALA and CALLIFLOR products help farmers tackle pest outbreaks and protect their yields, while our Applique Bien® training program ensures safe, effective use of agricultural inputs.

Our OpenAg® approach goes beyond products. We're building local capacity through technician training and promoting good agricultural practices that protect both farmer livelihoods and the environment. By connecting CMDT's expertise with our innovation, we help farmers increase productivity while adopting more sustainable methods that benefit their land and communities.

The results matter most of all - farmers are seeing improved resilience against pests, safer farming practices and stronger yields that support rural employment and economic stability. By working hand-in-hand with CMDT and Mali's cotton sector, we're helping protect livelihoods while addressing the environmental and social challenges that affect entire communities.

Our commitment to Mali's cotton farmers reflects our belief that sustainable agriculture starts with supporting the people who grow our world's essential crops.
